Odometer statement

I, the Seller, state that the odometer now reads [ODOMETER READING] miles (no tenths) and, to the best of my knowledge, it reflects the actual mileage of the vehicle described above, unless one of the following boxes is checked:

☐ The mileage stated is in excess of the odometer’s mechanical limits.

☐ The odometer reading is NOT the actual mileage. WARNING — ODOMETER DISCREPANCY.

If federal odometer disclosure applies to this vehicle, it is usually made on the title itself (or a state-approved secure form). This statement supports it but does not replace it.

Before you hand over the keys — checklist

Delete this page before you send or print the document.

• Check the buyer’s or seller’s photo ID and make sure the name matches the title.

• Compare the VIN on the title with the VIN on the dashboard and the driver’s door jamb.

• Run a vehicle history check through the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov) and look up open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

• Seller: sign the title in the right place, fill in the odometer reading on the title, and do not leave the buyer’s name blank.

• Payment: wait until a cashier’s check or transfer has actually cleared before releasing the title.

• Plates, registration and the release-of-liability notice follow state rules — check your state DMV website the same day.

• Make two signed copies of this bill of sale: one for the seller, one for the buyer. Keep the payment receipt.

• Sending the bill of sale from Layers lets both parties sign by a code from their email and keeps the signed copy for each.
