Civil ceremony: the Civil Code deadlines

Both partners make the marriage declaration in person at the town hall where the civil ceremony will take place (art. 280).

The declaration is posted the same day; the marriage can take place after 10 days from posting, counting both the posting day and the wedding day (art. 283). The mayor may allow a shorter term for good reasons.

If you do not marry within 30 days of posting, the declaration must be made again (art. 284).

In the declaration you choose your surname after marriage and the matrimonial property regime (arts 281–282).

Ask the town hall's civil status office for the list of documents (ID, birth certificates, medical certificates) and fees.

Your own amounts: the examples are not average prices. Monthly instalments from 21 October 2026, rounded to the leu; the last one adjusts.
