End-of-service dues — Jordan Labour Law

End-of-service award (Article 32), notice pay (23), unused leave (63), arbitrary dismissal compensation (25), and a request for your dues

Important: under Article 32 of Labour Law No. 8 of 1996 (as amended), the end-of-service award — one month's wage per year, with fractions of a year pro rata, on the last wage — is for a worker who is not subject to the Social Security Law. So it is counted here only for the months not covered by social security: enter your contribution months from your social security statement.

Request for end-of-service dues and a certificate of service

To: [EMPLOYER NAME]

Attn: Human Resources Manager

Subject: Request for end-of-service dues and a certificate of service

Dear Sir or Madam,

I, [EMPLOYEE NAME], national ID or passport number [ID NUMBER], worked for you as [JOB TITLE] from [START DATE] to [LAST WORKING DAY]. Please pay my end-of-service dues and give me a written statement showing my last monthly wage, length of service, period of social security cover, the end-of-service award under Article 32 of the Labour Law for the period not covered by social security, notice pay if due, pay for my unused annual leave under Article 63, and any deductions.

By my own calculation the estimated dues are JOD [AMOUNT]. Please explain any difference.

Please also give me a certificate of service under Article 30 of the Law and return any papers or certificates I deposited with you.

Yours faithfully,

Name and signature: ______________________ Date: ____/____/________

Before you rely on it

Ask your employer for a written statement of your dues and compare it with this calculation.

Print your social security contribution statement to see the months covered during this job.

If all or part of your pay is commission or piece rate, Article 32 uses the monthly average of the last 12 months: enter that instead of the last wage.

Breaks between one job and the next of no more than 60 days each count as continuous service for the award (Article 32).

If you believe the dismissal was arbitrary, the claim goes to the competent court within 60 days of the dismissal (Article 25).

Ask for a certificate of service (Article 30) and keep copies of your contract and payslips; complaints go to the Ministry of Labour.
