Under section 19 of the Employment Act 1955, wages must be paid not later than the seventh day after the last day of each wage period. Pay for overtime, work on a rest day and work on a gazetted public holiday must be paid not later than the last day of the next wage period.

[IF YOUR EMPLOYMENT HAS ENDED:] My employment ended on [DATE] [AFTER NOTICE / BY RESIGNATION WITH NOTICE]. Under section 20 of the Act, wages earned but not yet paid were due on the day my contract ended.

2. My request

Please pay RM[TOTAL] into my account [BANK NAME, ACCOUNT NO.] by [DATE — E.G. 7 DAYS FROM THIS LETTER], and give me a payslip showing the wages and any deductions.

If the amount is not paid by that date, I will file a claim with the Labour Department (Jabatan Tenaga Kerja). Under section 69 of the Act, the Director General of Labour may inquire into wage disputes and order the employer to pay the sum found due.

I am willing to discuss this. You can reach me at [PHONE / E-MAIL].

Yours faithfully,

Where you work matters. The Employment Act 1955 applies to Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan. Sabah and Sarawak have their own labour ordinances.

Domestic workers are covered by section 19 (time of payment) too.

Keep proof of when you sent the letter and every message after it. Do not sign a statement that you were "paid in full" unless you were.
